Duke of Brunswick

by Andrew James Webb

Kapitaen Heinrich von Schliemann knew the Kampfluftschiff  SMK “Duke of Brunswick” was doomed, tracer rounds from the accursed Russian Aerolyth “General Suvorov” and heavier cannon shells were striking the giant hydrogen filled gas bags causing great damage.
The tracer rounds were the real threat, thank the Lord the cannon rounds were passing through the gas bags without exploding.
Luckily the tracer rounds had not yet ignited the volatile hydrogen gas.
There was only one option, he had to close the range before his command ingnited.
Von Sliemann looked at the crew around him.
Young men, who had fought valiantly but the Russians had the stronger ship.
But there was one chance.
On the “General Suvorov” Admiral Ignatieff laughed derisively. One flying german sausage was no match for his cruiser, four might have been, but these Germanic fools were about to receive their final education at the his hands “Go ahead, close the range you fools, soon the maxims will shred you like wheat”
“Gott mit uns, we have the wind!!” cried the second officer to Von Sleimann as they bore down on the “General Suvorov”, all knew what was coming next, but to save their state, to protect the army fighting valiantly below from this Russian aerial monstrosity, there was no choice.
“Full speed ahead, prepare to ram!! I am so proud of you my boys!”
Then the maxim incendiary rounds began to strike.
Admiral Ignatieff had time to scream as the huge flaming torch that was the “Duke of Brunswick” engulfed the pride of the Russian aerial fleet.
The resulting explosion could be heard for miles.
